The first spawned 7 tornadoes on December 2 and the second, more prolific event, resulted in 28 touchdowns between December 23 and 24. Both events were the result of strong extratropical storm that moved across the Southern United States, with tornadoes taking place mainly along a cold front extending south of the system's center.〔 Between the two months, nine people sustained injuries and $20.4 million was wrought in damage, much of which resulted from an EF3 tornado on December 23.
